Peppertree Dog Rescue (http://www.peppertree.org) is having their first annual picnic and dog swim, from noon-3 at Grafton Lake State Park it will be held rain or shine. The dogs will have access to swimming in the lake (but not humans) and there will be picnic food (burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, salads and soda). $20 gets parking, 1 adult picnic meal and 1 dog in for swimming. It is an additional $5 per person and dog (with a max at 2 dogs per person).

The National Certification Course for Water Fitness Instructors will be held at the Rudy A. Ciccotti Family Recreation Center located on 30 Aviation Rd. in Albany, New York on Saturday, October 4, 2008 from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. The course is open to any person 16 years of age or older who has an interest in being a water fitness instructor. Persons who are currently teaching, but do not have the credentials, are strongly encouraged to attend.An advanced course will also be held on the same day for individuals who have a minimum of one year experience teaching water exercise and at least 100 hours of actual experience teaching water exercise. The Glens Falls Figure Skating Club has announced plans for their 2008-09 season, beginning in October. Learn-to-skate (Basic Skills) classes for ages 3 and up will be held on Saturdays from 10:30-11:30 am. Additional Basic Skills Classes will be held on Sundays from 11:30-12:30 and on Monday evenings from 7:15 to 8:15 pm. Basic Skills classes include a 30-minute lesson and 30 minutes of practice time. Bridge Freestyle classes will be held on Sundays from 11:30-Noon. Moves in the Field classes will be held on Sundays from Noon-12:30 pm. Open Advanced Figure Skating will be available Mondays from 7:15 to 8:45 pm and Wednesdays from 7:15 to 8:30 pm. New skaters are always welcome. Registration forms are available on the club website, http://glensfallsfigureskating.com or by calling 747-6571. The club will hold a registration session, as well as a skate sale on Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 10 AM to Noon in the lobby of the Glens Falls Civic Center.
